Genealogy

The group has proven to be quite popular with over 25 members sharing the common goal of researching their family history. We are quite a diverse group in terms of interest and experience.

Getting started can appear challenging for individuals who are new to the subject and this is where the group approach comes into its own. Members are always happy to share experiences and support each other.

Meeting at Cullompton Library, the group has free access to the Ancestry genealogy site (libraries version) together with computers and WiFi, the only requirement is membership of the library for which there is also no charge.

Event highlights for 2023 were the presentations by Stephen Dyer, the u3a subject matter expert, on the 1921 Census and Sue Bond,
a volunteer with the Devon Family History Society, based in Exeter. We heard about the work they do to promote the study of genealogy and
history, especially of Devon families at their research centre in Exeter.
